WBO opens for new Researcher Fellows

  • Program Seeks Researchers in Seven Different Areas

  • Candidates Have until March 20 to Apply

The Washington Brazil Office (WBO) launched on Friday, February 24 its Research Fellows program for the period from March 2023 to February 2024. Applicants must submit a thousand work project proposal about their proposed collaboration with the WBO. It is due on March 20th. Those selected will be contacted by email at the end of the selection process. This is an unpaid and non-residential program.

The Research Fellow is expected to produce articles in their area of research and specialization; to propose events in their areas of work; and participate in panels, symposiums, debates and interviews so that their ideas reach an ever-growing group of people, influence public debate, and contribute to producing positive changes in their chosen fields of research.

The WBO provides mentors, contacts, publishing platforms, visibility, and credibility as a think tank dedicated to connecting, supporting, and carrying out advocacy, knowledge and cooperation activities to strengthen civil society, protect human rights, promote sustainable development, improve people’s socioeconomic status; and defend democracy and the rule of law in Brazil.

The organization's objective is to produce knowledge about Brazil and support the international work of all sectors that wish to engage in action, bilateral exchanges, production of knowledge and construction of cooperative relations between Brazil and the United States and/or work with international organizations headquartered in the United States.

Positions are open to candidates who work with one of the seven areas of interest to the WBO organization:

  • Democracy

  • Human rights and freedom of expression

  • Amazon, environment and climate change

  • Racial equality and overcoming racism

  • Gender and sexual diversity

  • Strengthening of civic space and protecting social, union, environmental, and indigenous leaders and journalists

  • Socioeconomic development, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 2030 Agenda

  • Rights of Brazilian immigrants in the United States

The WBO Research Fellows' program began in February 2022, with the selection of a first group of eleven researchers. The 2023/2024 edition is open both for the presentation of new candidacies and for the renewal of current researchers.
