Brazil Office Brings Together Civil Society for Debate on Gender and Climate at G20 Social

WBO Press Release
November 5 2024

On November 11 and 13, the Brazil Office will hold a series of virtual meetings with Brazilian civil society organizations to exchange information and start conversations on gender and climate issues within the scope of the G20 Social Summit. Registration is available through this link: https://bit.ly/rumoaog20

These meetings are part of the Feminist Dialogues in Collaboration, a broader umbrella of initiatives that includes the preparatory dialogues for the G20 and at least two more future events: the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), in March 2025; Conference of States Parties to the Climate Change Convention (COP 30) in November 2025.

Regarding the actions linked to the G20, the thematic sessions serve as an opportunity to improve organizations' understanding of strategic impact within the scope of international treaties, in order to prepare the sector's participation in the Social Summit that will bring together civil society at the event of the 20 largest economies in the world from November 14 to 16 in Rio de Janeiro.

“Our intention is to facilitate the exchange of information in these informative thematic sessions, disseminating relevant documents and materials for a better understanding and in-depth study of what is being discussed,” said Denise Dora, coordinator of the Gender and Freedom of Artistic Expression Program at the Brazil Office.

The thematic sessions will be led by representatives of Brazil Office partner organizations, such as OXFAM, THEMIS and Fundo Elas+, with facilitation by Awelle.

Collaborative coverage and broad participation

Following the success of the agenda of activities and collaborative coverage during Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) in May 2024, the pioneering methodology will be replicated.

The method developed by Awelle, with principles of radical collaboration, encourages constant and organized exchanges in a closed WhatsApp community, making information accessible in an open space for exchange and broad participation. In addition to sharing informative materials, the channel also promotes collaborative coverage by correspondents in different parts of the world and active participants in the group.
